Six months equal maternity leave for garment and others private sector as public sector demanded by the NGWF .Social welfare minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Comrade Rashed Khan Menon ,MP supported the demand.

Social Welfare Minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Comrade Rashed Khan Menon supported the demand of six months equal maternity leave for garment and others private sector as public sector. As the chief guest Comrade Rashed Khan Menon said this at National Press Club on the occasion of International Women’s Day organized by National Garment Workers Federation on 9th March 2018.

He also said the beginning of this day in the continuation of the movement of women workers. Women workers of the sewing factory in New York City gave birth to this movement demanding elimination of wage discrimination, fixation of working hours, work environment including Labor-friendly workplace. Even today, the situation exists. Communal fundamentalist are giving fatwa to women for house arrest. They are threatening to stop women in agricultural work. But the women of Bangladesh are progressively avoiding ignorance and going forward. The situation is changing so this time the slogan has been “Time is now in the development of Women, they are changing the working life and style of urban and rural”.But women are deprived of the benefits of this development.

The Executive Director of BILS Md. Syed Sultan Uddin Ahmed said, not just talking about the equality of men and women, Have to talk about respectable equality. Working women will have to come forward in this struggle. Many women, including Begum Rokeya, have contributed in the country for Women emancipation.

The president of the Federation Amirul Haque Amin chaired the Program at third floor  of National Press Club, held at 11 AM.

Kamrul Ahsan, Central Committee member of Bangladesh Workers Party, Advocate Mrs.  Jobayda Parveen, President of Bangladesh Revolutionary Garment  Workers Federation Md. Sala Uddin Shopon, General  Secretary of National Garment Workers Federation Mrs. Arifa Akter , Vice president  Ms. Safia Parveen, Vice president of National Garment Workers Employee Federation  Mrs. Firoza Begum and  Education & Training Secretary of Jatiyo Sramik Federation Mrs. Shahana Ferdous Lucky gave speech as a guest at the program.

Han A Hats & Caps  workers  union President Mrs. Abida Sultana, Organizing Secretary Ms. Sahhida  Akter ,Parveen Akter from Anonto Fashion & Appeals ltd.  Workers Union, Ms. Parveen from Experince Clothing (EPZ), Women Affairs Secretary of Glorious Fashion Workers Union Rashida Akter shared their own experiences among women workers leaders of newly formed union at the factory level.

The following demands are mentioned on International Women’s Day:

  1. Discrimination of Maternity leave between Private and Public Sector is Contrary to the principles of the constitution. So, Make the Maternity leave for 6 months in all Private Sectors including Garments.
  2. Make “Sexual harassment prevention Committee” in every Factory.
  3. Want equal rights for women throughout the family, workplace, society and the state.
  4. Elimination of male and female discrimination.
  5. Ensure Equal rights, Equal wages, Safe work place for Women Workers
  6. Want life living wage and safe workplace
  7. Want “Child Care centre” in each and every Garment Factory.
  8. Want Safe Maternity Center for women workers in the industrial areas free of cost
