Today, January 19, 2023, a joint initiative of 8 major French labor unions will hold a general strike against the French government’s proposal to change (shrink) the workers’ pension system. These 8 labor organizations are: CGT, CFDT, FSU, CFTC, Solidarities, UNSA, CFE-CGC and FO.

Under the French government’s proposed pension reform (ReForm), a number of proposals have been brought forward, including increasing the retirement age, reducing the financial benefits of pensions. All these proposals will harm the workers, working people and general public. Capital and the owners of the Owners of capital will benefit. And the French government will play the role of the guardian of the rich by abandoning the interests of the common people. It is for this reason that the 8 main French labor unions, including the CGT, have called for this general strike, which will be celebrated today.
